The Minister of Territorial Administration Atanga Nji Paul on September 8th 2021, granted an audience to a delegation of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. They are on a working mission in Cameroon from the 7-13 of September 2021.

The Assistant High Commissioner for Operations, Mr. Raouf Mazou was accompanied by Mrs. Aîssatou masseck Ndiaye Dieng, Deputy Director of the Regional Bureau for West and Central Africa and Guillaume Beer Representative of United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Cameroon. Speaking to the Press, Mr. Raouf Mazou said he and the MINAT boss held discussions on the situation of refugees in the country. “Cameroon is one of the countries in the world which is receiving the largest number of refugees of close to half a million with those from Nigeria and Central African Republic”. As well as the possibility to accompany these refugees back home with the necessary support. As concerns the situation of Internally Displaced People in the country, the Assistant High Commissioner for Operations said the United Nations and members of the International community would continue to provide support and assistance to them. The objective of Mr. Mazou’s mission to Cameroon is to familiarize himself with the Lake Chad Basin situation and advocate for the inclusion of refugees and IDPs in the operationalization of the Lake Chad Basin stabilisation strategy. He will travelling to the Far North Region on September 9, where he will be meeting with the Governor and some local authorities.
