HUMANITARIAN AID TO REFUGEES IN THE EAST REGION

President Paul Biya dispatches Humanitarian aid to refugees in the East Region,Upon instructions from the Head of State, the Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nji Paul is in the East Region for a 4-day working visit from June 9 to 12, 2021, to evaluate and distribute aid to the refugees from the Central African Republic.

The distribution exercise took place at the court yard of the Sub Divisional office at Garoua-Boulaï, this June 10, 2021. Over 3250 refugees from the Central African Republic representing 1200 families from the camps of Garoua boulai Sub Division in Lom and Djerem Division and Kentzou Sub Division in the Kadey Division, all in the East Region will be benefiting from the presidential package that were transported in 27 trucks. The percularity of this aid to refugees is that it will be extended to families and religious communities hosting the refugees. The Items distributed comprised of vegetable oil, soap, food items like sardine and rice, other items included blankets and mattresses. Going by Territorial Administration Minister, it is a habitual gesture of always assisting refugees by President Paul Biya. He has sent items and transport money to ferry the refugees back home. He equally expressed gratitude to partners who have been taking care of the refugees on a daily bases. Minister Atanga Nji indulged the refugees to respect the laws of the land and usher their children to follow the right path. He also assured them that when things get back to normal they will be accompanied back home. Minat was accompanied by the Governor of the East Region, Grégoire Mvongo, the administrative, traditional, local, security as well as religious authorities of the region. It should be recalled that, these refugees are fleeing from insecurity in their country orchestrated by armed gangs and political crisis after the presidential elections of 2020 in the Central African Republic.The East Region is hosting a total of about 180,000 refugees, with the biggest camp being Gado-Badzere, in Garoua-Boulaï Sub Division, which is hosting about 30,000 refugees, closely followed by Kentzou in Kadey Division, which is hosting two refugee camps in Lolo and Mbile.
